Jaggery

Description:

Jaggery is a traditional uncentrifuged sugar is a concentrated product of date, cane juice, or palm sap (see palm sugar) without separation of the molasses and can vary from golden brown to dark brown in color.

Types:

Although jiggery does not have any particular product types as such it is available in 3 forms:

  1. Ravas: can best be described as frustum shaped blocks of jaggery.

  2. Cubes: Jaggery cubes are square shaped frustum blocks. They are available only in one standard size.

  3. Powder

Packing:

Jaggery Ravas is available in the following packings:-

  • 10 kg block packing
  • 1 kg block packing
  • 1/2 kg block packing
Jagery cubes are packed in plastic bags of either 1 kg of 1/2 kg. One carton contains 10 such packets.

Jaggery powderis packed in a similar manner as jaggery cubes. Each bag containing one kg of material and 10 such bags in one carton.

All markings as per buyer specifications.

Volume:

Jaggery is shipped in 20 ft. container loads. A single 20 ft. F.C.L. carries around 1800 units of jaggery cubes OR 18 metric tins of powder OR 23 metric tons of jaggery ravas.

Precautions:

Jaggery melts when exposed to intense heat and spoils easily when exposed to water for long periods of time. Therefore it is advisable to store jaggery in a cool, dark and dry place.
