The peanut, or groundnut (Arachis hypogaea), is a species in the legume or "bean" family. The groundnut is the only nut that grows below the earth. It has a slight salty taste. The groundnut is also commonly known as the peanut.


Groundnut are popularly exported in two varieties:

  1. Groundnut Kernels: Simply, normal Groundnut whose skins have been removed. These can be further divided into 2 types:

    • The Bold type:in which the seeds are comparatively larger than the java type

    • The Java type:where the seeds are significantly smaller than the bold variety.

  2. Washed Groundnut Kernels: Washed Groundnut are specially treated to be given a whiter outer appearance.


Groundnut Kernels are exported in 15 kg (gross packing) jute bags.

A single 20 ft. F.C.L. contains approximately 19 metric tons of Groundnut Kernels.
